The Community Cenacolo was started in Saluzzo in the North of Italy in 1983 by a nun called Sr. Elvira. Sr Elvira was concerned by the destruction she saw among young people through drug abuse and she felt called by God to help them. She begged her Religious Superiors to allow her to engage in this work and after eight years they consented. From the beginning God blessed the work. To-day there are 54 houses spread around the world including houses for street children in South America.

A house in Ireland was opened three miles from Knock, Co. Mayo in 1999. The Cenacolo in Knock does not receive State Funding and relies on Divine Providence. The Community does not believe in giving methadone which government funded centres do. The Community prefers to have the freedom to do things Sr. Elvira’s way through prayer, hard work and friendship. The men work with the animals on the farm, learn skills like metal work and carpentry, cooking and housework. There is no charge for anyone staying in the Community in Knock.

Every Wednesday at 7.30pm there is a Prayer Group in the Community Centre, St. Peter’s Church, Phibsboro, Dublin. While the Prayer Group is in progress men and women are interviewed with a view to entering the Cenacolo Community. In order to be accepted into the house in Knock male addicts must attend these interviews for a number of weeks. There is not a house for women in Ireland at present but women who attend the interviews in Phibsboro are accepted in the Cenacolos in Italy or in Medjugorje.

Appointments are available for people over 16 years of age experiencing gambling issues/problems/addictions and their family members; who may be affected by their loved one’s gambling.

Each client is assigned a minimum of six free appointments in a 12-month period. If your Counsellor feels you may need more and you are in agreement, then they can allot a further three or six free appointments.

If you want to cancel or postpone your appointment you must do so 48 hours in advance. Consequently, if you do not cnacel or postpone in time you will lose one of the free appointments.

I.D.E.A.L is a brand new service.  To date it is the only one of its kind available in Ireland and is now providing home-based alcohol detoxification services for people who are dependent on alcohol and wish to stop drinking.
We provide "at home" care and support for the whole family in the family home.
Our program works by having a visiting health care worker, recovery mentor and family facilitor who comes to the family home until detoxification treatment is completed and recovery is well under way.
Our program lasts for a total of 7 weeks from start to finish.  Alcohol detoxification medication is prescribed for comfort and safety
Home treatment is proven to be more cost effective than residential and this can be another huge benefit to financially restricted families.
it is not always necessary to be admitted to hospital or rehab for alcohol detoxification.

Home alcohol detoxification is suitable for

  • Self employed
  •  Lone parents
  •  Those in the public eye
  •  Low income families
  •  Those who do not wish to be separated from family for treatment

We provide help for anyone who is having problems in their lives because they are drinking alcohol heavily or dependently. The treatment is done in your own home. This may also include an Alcohol Detox and this is done, again in your own home, by a registered, qualified nurse. Our treatment is called Integrated Treatment or Dual Diagnosis Care. Dual Diagnosis are the words you may hear when someone is talking about a person that has a mental health difficulty, like anxiety, stress or depression and along with that they also have an alcohol or drug problem. This means that the person is treated for their mental health condition along with their addiction or alcohol abuse problem. If both problems are diagnosed then both must be treated or neither will get better.
